On Monday, January 12, 2026, Clayton County Tax Commissioner Danielle Smith was honored to join our Legislative Delegation at the Georgia State Capitol for the opening day of the 2026 Georgia General Assembly Legislative Session.
Opening Day at the Capitol marks the official start of the legislative process for the year and sets the tone for the work ahead on behalf of Georgia’s citizens. It is a powerful reminder of the importance of collaboration between state lawmakers and local Constitutional Officers who serve on the front lines of government every day.
As Clayton County Tax Commissioner, Commissioner Smith remains committed to advocating for policies that support fair and equitable taxation, operational efficiency, taxpayer protections, and modernized government services. Being present at the Capitol allows her to engage directly with members of the Clayton County Legislative Delegation and other state leaders to discuss issues impacting revenue collection, public education funding, infrastructure, and essential county services.
“Local government is where policy meets people,” Commissioner Smith shared. “It is important that the voices and experiences of counties like Clayton are represented as laws are considered and crafted at the state level. I look forward to a productive legislative session and continued partnership with our legislators to best serve our community.”
Throughout the 2026 session, the Office of the Clayton County Tax Commissioner will continue to monitor legislation that affects local governments and remain proactive in providing insight, data, and support as needed. Commissioner Smith stands ready to work collaboratively to ensure that Clayton County residents are protected, informed, and well-served.
As always, Commissioner Smith remains grateful for the opportunity to represent Clayton County and looks forward to a legislative session rooted in service, accountability, and progress.
